Karina Talamantes Endorsed by Sacramento Central Labor Council and Los Rios College Federation of Teachers
SACRAMENTO—Today, the Karina Talamantes for Sacramento County Board of Education campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of the Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279.
The Sacramento Central Labor Council advocates to improve the lives of working people. They work to ensure that all people who work are treated fairly, with decent paychecks and health and retirement benefits, safe jobs, respect, and equal opportunities.
“As a first generation college student from a working class family, I am excited to be supported by organizations that represents the interest of hard working families,” said Talamantes. “I look forward to working with the Sacramento Central Labor Council to continue advancing equity in our communities.”
The Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279 represents approximately 2,500 instructors, counselors, librarians, college nurses, and program coordinators at campuses of California’s second largest community college district, including, American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College.
“Partnerships with our community college system is key to ensuring that our schools prepare students to be college and career ready,” said Talamantes. “The Los Rios College Federation of Teachers plays a critical role in supporting fair wages and supports to staff that are critical for student success.”
In endorsing Talamantes, the Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279, joins the California School Employees Association, and the Natomas Teachers Association, making Talamantes the candidate with the most school employees association support in the race for Sacramento County Board of Education, Area 2.
